Wessel Farms Homepage

Hi!!.... This is a page about our farm in the beautiful Matanuska-Valley near Palmer, Alaska. Our farm is a second generation farm started by my father and mother in 1966 and now operated by myself, Phil and my three children Carmen, Brian and John. Originally our farm started as a truck farm raising numerous vegetables that grow here, selling them at roadside stands in the summer. Now our primary crop is potatoes.

We grow, harvest, store, process and market our potatoes ourselves under our label as Last Frontier Potatoes. This keeps me and my family very busy here in the land of the midnight sun.

We plant our seed potatoes during the month of May. We mainly grow two different varieties of potatoes called Shepody and BakeKing.

This is a view of our fields in the summer while the plants are in the middle of their growing season.

The growing season lasts until we harvest in September.

Pictured here is while we are digging in the fall. They are loaded into trucks from the potato digger then unloaded later into boxes into our warehouse where they are stored until we process them for the stores.

During the winter is when we mainly do our processing and marketing of our potatoes. Pictured here is the same field as above but during the winter after a blanket of snow has fallen onto it.
