Meeting
Information

The volunteers of the Birchwood Squadron meet every Tuesday night at 7:30 P.M.. at the Birchwood Airport in the Civil Air Patrol hanger.

The airport, 2 miles west of the Glenn Highway at the North Birchwood exit, has a 4000 foot by 100 foot paved runway (19R/01L) and a 2500 foot parallel gravel strip (19L/01R) that is used as a ski strip in the winter.  Be cautious on the gravel strip as it is also used by Ultra-light vehicles that may or may not be using radios.

Our equipment:  Private aircraft are occasionally utilized in our missions, but we primarily use aircraft that belong to CAP.  While the number and type of aircraft assigned to the squadron is ultimately determined by the Alaska Wing, the following are typical of the aircraft available within the various squadrons in Alaska CAP:

  • Complex conventional gear aircraft: DHC-2 Beaver and C-185
  • Complex tricycle gear aircraft: C-206 and C-182
  • Tricycle gear aircraft:  C-172
  • Sail planes, primarily used for Cadet Programs

Some C-185s and Beavers are outfitted with skis in the winter and floats in the summer.

If you are interested in learning more about the Civil Air Patrol and how you might help contribute to our overall mission - please come on out and attend one of our meetings. We would love to meet you and to have the opportunity to answer any questions that you might have.  Come out and see us...
