We took off from Talkeetna at about 10am, riding up the Susitna River at high speed to a secret drainage off the Susitna that Bob Meals knew about. The cut led to a bench above the Susitna that led to Curry Ridge. After a really quick dash down Curry Ridge, which offered only windswept hardpacked snow, stopping at the lookout, we dropped back into the near tree line spruce forest and worked our way down through a bunch of small lakes and drainages that offered big hill climbs and lots of deep powder. Poking our way along the lower ridge we looked for a good way to drop into the Indian River area. After finding a good one and riding the railroad tracks about a mile we reached Chad's cabin. We'd traveled about 50 miles. We shoveled off the cabin roof and took lunch. At 1:00 we headed back. The climb back out of the Indian River valley was a good one to get back up on the ridge.
