High Altitude and Deep Powder

While 7000' doesn't sound too high for you guys in Colorado or Wyoming, in Alaska it's way up there. Considering that we started at an elevation of about 600' above see level and climbed to above 6500' in little over 30 miles, we're pretty proud of our little trip. Considering that the highest point in the Talkeetna Mountains is around 8000' we did pretty good. I can't tell you where this is..the guys would kill me, but I can say it took riding through a notch 30' wide up a waterfall, across a pass and down another drainage and up a major creek fighting alders and open water all the way. A steep climb from a pond at the headwaters of the major creek put us on a bench that led to a glacier. The glacier gradually rose from 5500' to nearly 7000' and a view you couldn't believe. The five mile long glacier had from 2-3' of powder over it's entire surface as well as the bowl surrounding the headwaters pond. We were blessed by seeing a rare wolverine, alot of moose and a couple caribou. Mountain riding at it's best.
