Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church
Planning
Meeting
31
March 2007
Summary
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 am
and Pastor opened with a prayer. Present were: Tim Schneider, Matthew Mills,
Ingrid and Vern Roelfs, John Kehr, Jr., Jaye Keener, Nancy Sitz, Forrest Wacker,
Terri and Chuck Semmler, Katherine Wallman, Carol Shearer, Mary Ann and Len
Nelson, Jane Walker, Rebecca Carroll, Mark Coburn, J. D. Jarnagin, Lydia
Wirkus, Scott Hattenburg.
Scott briefly described the process and
desired outcomes for the meeting.
A thorough summary of the statistical data
from the questionnaires was presented by Scott. There was lots of discussion on
the various data. Scott reminded us that the focus for this planning meeting
was to review the data and set up task groups. This meeting was not intended as
a referendum on Pastor, a debate on doctrine, nor a mandate for change.
After the presentation of the data, there
was discussion as to the issues which merit task groups. There are 4
overarching themes, which will be the foci of the task groups. The themes are:
o Learning, identifying, and implementing God’s gifts to us
o Congregational unity
o Personal communication and respect
o Strengthening and involving families
The three task groups are:
o Youth issues
o Worship issues
o Inreach/Outreach
The process over the next 2 months is as
follows: Each group will meet one or more times to review the comments from the
survey. During these meetings, the group will synthesize issues from the
comments and group discussion, into 3 – 5 main items to present at the
follow-up planning meeting. The participants in the groups, along with Scott,
will reconvene 19 May to discuss each group’s issues.
The goals we identified for the coming year
(which we are addressing through the task groups and continuing planning
meetings) are:
o Heal, unify and strengthen our congregation
o Show and share our joy in being Christians and members of
Our Redeemer
o Please God!
Respectfully submitted,
Lydia H. Wirkus, Council Secretary
